For our friends who live in other historic districts within Columbus, we wanted to provide a resource of information on how you can go about making changes to your property or contacting your Commission.
If you live in a historic district, you likely know that there are certain things that you can and cannot do to your property. However, those restrictions are different for each district. The guidelines for each historic district can be found at the City of Columbus website under the heading . If you scroll down to 鈥淕uidelines and Resources,鈥 you will find the guidelines for each individual historic district that outline what can and cannot be done within that district. In order to make changes to your home or business, you need to have a Certificate of Appropriateness from your respective Commission.
To obtain a Certificate of Appropriateness (COA), all commissions will be receiving applications through the . Once you create an account, you will select to create an application under the 鈥淧lanning鈥 Section. Then you will be given the opportunity to select which board or commission you are applying for review under: Historic Resources Commission, Victorian Village Commission, 帝王会所 Commission, Italian Village Commission, or and Individual Historic Listing. Once you select your commission, the portal will walk you through the application process. Applications are due a month before you wish to be heard by the Commission.
NOTE: The Brewery District Commission has been incorporated by the Historic Resources Commission since February 2024. This just means that the Historic Resources Commission will review the applications for COAs within the Brewery District.
